The Ultimate Music Library

New Years Eve Reno DJ

Music is a moral law. It gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination, a charm to sadness, and life to everything. It is the essence of order, and leads to all that is good, just and beautiful, of which it is the invisible, but nevertheless dazzling, passionate, and eternal form.”

Music has always fascinated me. I remember lighting up with joy after receiving a 2nd generation iPod Shuffle. That was for Christmas all the way back in 2005. It came with a then impressive 1GB storage capacity.

My Music library has expanded to an enormous 250+ Gigabyte, High-Quality, Super-library. It continues to grow every day. I love sharing my collection as both a DJ and as a Music lover!

DJs In Reno Music Library: Quantity AND Quality

I also take pride in the quality of my collection.

Music in the form of digital audio comes in many different formats.

These formats can be lossy, or lossless.

For example: MP3 is Lossy, and FLAC is lossless.

Lossless formats contain much more data.

This means that lossless formats take up more storage.

But, they sound cleaner, brighter and more natural than their “lossy” counterparts.

Lossy formats will sound pixelated, bit crushed, or distorted at lower qualities.

The most noticeable effect on lossy audio, is “highs that bleed.”

This phrase applies to the high frequencies of the human hearing range (15kHz – 22kHz).

This range is where the snare, clap, crashes, and hi-hats are in a song.

When a song is lossy, the highs (high frequencies) tend to “bleed,” or are are dull, blurry, muffled or muddied.

As a DJ, I ensure that as much of my collection as possible is High-Fidelity.

For example, here we have a FLAC (high fidelity) copy of the song: “Cars” by Gary Numan.

Gary Newman Cars Spek

And in the lossy MP3 copy? You can see that there is no sound above 16kHz!

Gary Newman Cars Low Bitrate

That’s 20% of the human hearing range! Don’t settle for 80% of Music!
